An Overview of Human Rights Unit 



Human Rights Unit at the College of Languages has been established according to the will of Ministry ofHigher Education and scientific Research to insert the topics of Human Rightsand Democracy as secondary materials for the Iraqi students, to spread such aneducation, and to elevate students thinking politically, socially and culturally.

     Since ever, College ofLanguages undertook the responsibility to teach Human Rights to the firststage, and Democracy to the second stage students at the eleven Departments ofthe College. To teach these vital topics and to develop them according to the academiccriteria, the Unit of Human Right has been established. Due to the developmentswitnessed by the Unit, the number of the teaching staff raised from only twoduring the two previous years to eleven. This, of course, indicates the deepconcern of the Deanery in the development of the curriculum to the highestlevels, not to mention the will of the University to restrict teaching thismaterial to only holders of Ph. D. in Political Sciences and Law.
